Software is still too hard to make. Imagine when whatever is the equivalent of camcorder::movies happens for making software.

Agree, I expect that we will have a lot of really bad software come from it though. Desktop publishing was a boon and a bane.

Do you think that the tools need to change fundamentally, or might existing tools work if the education & culture around them were improved?

Education & culture are requisites when a UI is so bad it doesn't make any sense unless someone near you (not nec physically) can explain.

This makes sense. I’m reading “What Works” @ your recommendation, & it fits the same idea of redesigning systems, not relying on individuals

HARC is working in the space, but nothing to point to yet, think they're still reorganizing post-VPRI.

That’s already true for making some software. The problem is the software we want to make keeps getting more complex.

I actually feel like JS/the Web is mostly that—reminds me of VB in the 90's—and maybe the limiting factor is JS framework churn or something

I hope so, but it could go the other way. In the 1930s my grandfather and other teenagers would make their own radios. It went commercial.

I suspect the difference between creating things and searching for things will continue to blur. This will include software too. Can we own?
