A more on-brand Amazon bookstore would have just been a giant endless warehouse full of books, unstaffed & auto charges you when you leave
-
-
When you leave, it freezes to being that book permanently
-
One of the best things about the bookstore experience (after the smell of books) is being able to see the full breadth on a topic
-
And to select from the topical shelf the one or ones that seem most appealing to you.
-
"Most debated on http://amazon.com " and other algorithm-curated shelves ignores the context the book exists within
-
I would take Netflix-style algorithmic curation: e.g., "Young Adult High Fantasy with a Queer Lead Character" yessss this is *my shelf*
-
Yesss this would be amazing
-
was chatting with someone who tried to help traditional retailers/department stores do SEO. hierarchical ontologies are *crippling* online.
-
e.g., had category page for "Hoodies > American Apparel" (hierarchical ontology), but not "black hoodies" or "men's hoodies" (search terms)

I've been trying to go pop by the Amazon bookstore for days but I get depressed every time I see a photo of it floating around.
-
I can't help thinking it's like a bookstore made by people who don't read for those who don't particularly enjoy it. That's the vibe I get.
