          yes, i use a hardware store heat gun, so the foil is useful to prevent it from melting things...

          Exactly. To protect other small SMD parts near that area. Aluminum foil tapes are also nice for some applicationspic.twitter.com/8o8WbuRoy3

          These tapes are usually used in HVAC applications. But work well for SMD rework. It leaves some horrible residue unfortunately.pic.twitter.com/8NBsmsSgbi
