I've been thinking about this. I think the key is recognizing where your effort makes the most difference.

I know too many people who have spent years obsessing over corporate politics, and changed almost nothing in those systems.

And maybe spending years trying and failing is worth it when lives are on the line or something. Maybe not just to improve a corporate app.
