Wouldn't, therefore, it make sense to explore programming languages that sound less oriented to "telling machines what to do"?
Does changing sudo to please really make such a substantial difference?

I'm not sure. It bugs me viscerally, but you'd have to do actual research to really know if it leads to more mistakes.

It would be so cool to see an error rate study of please vs sudo. Especially if it focused on novice users.

This reminds me of my kids - "can I have another cookie, please?" "No, you've had enough." "But, I said please!!"
