I have been thinking about the paradigm of "commands" in programming, and whether softer/more 'polite' language could improve the machine UI

-
It was pretty much a whim at the time but I felt this huge relief when I "please !!" instead of "sudo !!" - it fit better as language
-
So what will this shell be called , maybe lovsh or something warm and fuzzy like that?
-
I'm not sure that request-based conversational patterns are strictly cast in a setting of feelings of love, per se
-
So maybe the shells name would be more along the lines of courteoush. Since it uses "please" and maybe a form of "nice" called "excuse me".
-
Probably just as good as "curses"
-
I'm sure "fsck" is part of the "curses" shell.

Yep. Conway's Law!

This actually really bothers me, because it reduces cognitive barrier to doing things with excessive privilege.
-
Whoah, expand on that?
-
Sysadmin 101: it's supposed to be hard to do things with high privilege. The barrier is there to force you to stop & think.
-
Particularly with UNIX-like systems where privilege is binary. Change the model and other options open up.
-
sudo adds logging, but won't help you if you accidentally wreck your system because program you ran wasn't what you wanted.
-
Does changing sudo to please really make such a substantial difference?
-
I'm not sure. It bugs me viscerally, but you'd have to do actual research to really know if it leads to more mistakes.
-
That's fascinating! That really underscores that functionally, it's not the same. Yet it is the exact same command!
