Could you expand on how specifically it is bad for science? Do you think it will have had a significantly negative effect years from now?

Creates populations of those who are for science and those who are disenfranchised from science.
eg imagine rural/isolated youth who don't live where people march; message to 2nd group is maybe, science is not for you. That's not great

Arguably seeing people even on tv celebrating science might encourage some of those youth to feel proud of their interests as well...
