I want a dictionary that functions like the unix command `apropos` — that tells me what other words are similar to the word I'm thinking of

like a thesaurus?
more like a prefix/suffix dictionary or one that includes word families.

@Chris_Gammell a thesaurus pairs words by meaning — I would want it to include adjacent meanings also. -
incidentally, a good example is that you want to see "thesaurus" linked from the entry for "dictionary"

ah, yeah. You can imagine a sort of hyperthesaurus that has many axes. (Many Chinese dictionaries are kind of like this)
