I find it slightly embarrassing not to speak the second language of the city I live in. Recs for making a serious effort to learn Spanish?

What do you speak besides English, and how did you learn that? (Other Romance languages help, or anything w/ right vowels)

German (mother), French (high school), Cantonese (aggressive stringing together a patchwork of sources because nobody teaches)

OK! French will help with vocab and grammar. Also confidence. Duolingo drills vocab mostly, haven't tried Pimsleur.

well i don't think you can be fluent without immersion, but Duolingo helps me with enough Portuguese or Swedish to get by

Duolingo; supplement with Afro Cuban music or other fun Spanish speaking musicians & rewatch shows you've seen in Spanish :)

the "rewatch" part is really helpful to add context to phrasing/conjugation you're only learning in docs/apps

With the caveat that Spanish like English is heavily regional, and so you'll need to adjust the Platonic Spanish it teaches.

The the I prefer about Pimsleur vs Duolingo is that it starts on practical, everyday adult conversation immediately.
