I should have specified — roughly thinking in terms of "in exchange for non-profit/donation" but I like this answer so much anyway

tee shirt. Mp3s, tote bag...but I generally try not to take the schwag from nonprofits.

I think the argument "for" is that you help spread the word about the nonprofit — ie you are doing something good for them

(would also add— nonprofit doesn't necessarily mean "no cashflow" and swag should be a tiny budget line-item..)
