I guess I already assumed most kickstarters are outsourcing, so the issue is more startup capital?

I don't know.. it feels like there aren't the relationships there that you'd want / could be there.

sure! Timing is bad, but also too hard to make those connections. Especially (I assume) for first-timers.

I don't know how you launch a campaign without knowing who will make what for how much & backup options.
