so metafilter I think may be an exception. It doesn't feel sterile, and they had a massive shift from degeneracy back to community

e.g. brigading. real life brigading doesn't work because you actually have to live in the new community.
I'm unfamiliar with the term, what's brigading as regards internet communities?
