I'm always frustrated by DK, mostly bc I compare them to McM. Would *love* an EE take on this, tho http://pencerw.com/feed/2015/8/15/notes-on-amazon-and-decisions-in-b2b-ecommerce …
Digikey is so fast! The airport in Thief River Falls MN must be a case study in good logistics.
it's funny - the small barrier of paying for shipping upgrades = huge obstacle for me. way prefer McM for speed.
I have long argued that someone should do McM for electronics
so many thoughts on this
FWIW: I've spoken with a decent number of ex-McM people to understand what makes it work. We should chat sometime
ditto - and I *never* turn down a conversation about industrial suppliers :)
They are great at picking and shipping, but their website design is straight out of 1995.
agree. But, how are they so good at picking? What is that they're doing that nobody else does?
Employing the entire population of Thief River Falls has always been my best guess.
One day I will have to go there and check it out. I wonder if they give tours.
I have been there and have been given an extensive your. There's no one thing that makes them so good.
is there a prevalent culture that was apparent?
They loooove their people. Told supplier "Can't buy sales team pizza. Must buy whole company pizza."
hence my little joke at the end of this blog post. http://www.worthingtonassembly.com/blog/2016/7/12/digikey-rolls-out-reverse-part-attribute-lookup …
it certianly isn't their 1990s quality website. But their logistics operation is impressive.
how does it work?
@element14 is better ;p
better at what though? What's the je ne sais quois here?
I found their search to be better, their entire site in general TBH (eagle footprints for some parts).
