So, how cool would it be if every chip manufacturer put all their reference designs online as downloadable CAD files?
@Chris_Gammell Ideally, as many as possible. I'm actually trying to gauge. Would this be awesome? No? Maybe or kinda meh?

@Chris_Gammell let's go with KiCAD, EAGLE, Altium, OrCad, PADS, ... etc .. as a launch req in this hypothetical.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@starsandrobots ok (only to poke holes) remember you need to include footprints for non=portable formats. Also different sw versions. -
@Chris_Gammell yes. all of that. -
@starsandrobots I'm not saying it's not possible nor that it's a good idea. Only that there's a reason it doesn't exist yet. -
@Chris_Gammell theorize? for what reasons could that be? -
@starsandrobots mostly that the impetus isn't there for the chip companies, especially in the cross-marketing required. -
@starsandrobots though note: this does exist in pockets. Web Bench can export to a couple different formats. That's a nice model.

@starsandrobots would be great! I just think there's a reason it hasn't happened yet. -
@Chris_Gammell something besides the amount of effort involved? -
@starsandrobots@Chris_Gammell I suspect trusting the source produced the work is an issue. Checking doesn't save much over doing it. -
@RebelbotJen@starsandrobots yes, that too
