Electric cars will wreck the argument that commercial flights are at least no environmentally worse than each person individually driving.

@starsandrobots still have to mine the metals for batteries, emissions will be lower but what other environmental destruction will be found

@starsandrobots is that actually argument? If we all drove roads would be insane. Mpg would drop like crazy

@nomadicnerd @starsandrobots not if we had self driving or at least communicating cars

@octal @starsandrobots but if we had to drive across the country most people just wouldn't. The convenience of time is most of the value

@nomadicnerd @starsandrobots for 2-6h trips I'd take a private electric RV. For transcon I'd fly. Open up many slots at airports

@octal @starsandrobots Agreed but that's the same distance hyper loop / high speed train is trying to address. 6 hr driving is 1 hr flight

@nomadicnerd @starsandrobots hyperloop would be nice but I have very little faith in gov or large works projects, vs incremental private car

@starsandrobots there would be efficiency downside to 5-10k kg electric van/house but at steady 80-100km/h speeds w aero not horrible

@starsandrobots I would love overnight electric RV/office travel on roads/lanes designed for self-driving, low accel comfort
