    Needing to copy text stripped of formatting, I made a Mac OS X command alias “plaincopy”: plaincopy="pbpaste -Prefer txt | pbcopy"

        @starsandrobots Nice. Most (not all) apps support paste and preserve format, which is nearly always good enough: Cmd+Option+Shift+V

        @starsandrobots just in case you are unaware, cmd-shift-v in most apps is "paste and match style" which will strip formatting.

        @starsandrobots @jf Nice! Sometimes "progress" (rich text) isn't. Otherwise I copy/paste in some address/find bar or @Unclutterapp

        @Unclutterapp why would I want to install an application when I can use built-in unix tools that follow unix philosophy?

        @jf Right- different use case. @Unclutterapp does a lot of stuff works when the terminal isn't handy (imagine that). Otherwise I'll use "c"

        @starsandrobots I found it useful to add "; pbpaste; echo" to the end of my similar alias, so I can verify the contents of my pasteboard.
