Continuing this series — via walking directions in Reykjavík:pic.twitter.com/Hb5JFmbAIY
I keep this series going because every time I find a beautiful walking path through a natural environment in a city, I am taken by what a good sign it is for quality of life, and I hope maybe to live somewhere with more of these.
was just reading about the idea of a “Gemba Walk” when I saw your tweet! Maybe this can be the urban planning equivalent :)
What's a gemba walk?
A lean manufacturing idea that reminds people to directly see the places/interfaces where people are creating value. Kind of just a structured way to avoid the trap of overly-abstracting reality in an organization. In this context sub “value” for quality of life, org for city!
Really just puts words to an intuitive / common sense idea… To extend the metaphor: walking between spaces of value creation -> walking between urban hotspots, you see the in-between places that actually dominate the “quality of life” of a city. Ok maybe getting carried away…
@starsandrobots I think the Swiss should just be invited to run all public transport modalities in US indefinitely
@corbett 100% agreed.
