@starsandrobots 'course you can do that with Emacs, too — plus get to write your code in Lisp. (But ex/vi is more succinct, it's true.)
Cool thing I learned today: using vim as shell text-processing REPL ("like CLI text processing, but where you can see the output and undo!")

@garrett_wollman seems the point with vim is building up your sed / awk pipelines in a more interactive way (to then enscript them)..
