The problems of the 21st century in one sentence. I am, of course, super-optimistic. 😀 We can make a far better future - in part by improving our institutions, and by better understanding our emotions. To quote @starsandrobots: "The future is STILL unwritten".https://twitter.com/farnamstreet/status/853034382436597760 …

I'd say it's more like: we have pathetically crude technology, don't appreciate our miraculous institutions, and blame errors on emotions, 'biases', and other alleged defects.

We don't even have the absolute basics of an economy (universal constructors) nor even the absolute necessities of life (immortality).

It'll never happen though (not anytime soon). But new technological breakthroughs, redistribution of wealth and counter culture can make the difference.

Most important things don't happen soon. Doesn't make them less interesting.

Yup! Like the enduring eagerness of cryptocurrency people through the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s... now it's starting to work. Ditto quantum computing (mutatis mutandis).

Counting Wiesner's 1960s work on quantum money as the first hint of cryptocurrencies. It certainly has many elements in that vein. Then the 80s and 90s cypherpunks - Chaum etc - of course.
