I'm not trying to be an extreme crafter, here — having an RC aircraft hobby
often means needing to do field repairs. Not having to drive back to a workshop to fix stuff and get it going again is - yes really -
life-changing

I have done SMT soldering using only a BiC lighter. I have carried refills in my field kit for a proper butane soldering iron. The TS-100 and LiPo DC jack is by far the best option I have ever used. I almost prefer it to the bench station, since you're untethered (like AirPods.)

I have used a butane powered soldering iron for two decades. It needs the purest gas or it starts choking but it does work. I doubt it would do SMD.

Depends on the tip and the SMD part. No reason why not when the job is just delivering heat.

I just started using the TS100 - it feel amazingly light and futuristic. I made some nice paracord sleeved cables that were DC5525 to ring terminal cables for a Meanwell leftover PSU. Debating a 5V to 12V step up converter to see if I can power it from 1 or 2 USB plugs.

Awesome! Please report!

This is why I want a diesel truck with a mounted welder/generator. Totally impractical, but I could fix /anything/

I used to have a butane-fueled soldering iron for spot repairs at the RC field in high school. It sucked. This looks way better!

N years (decades) ago, a "portable" battery-powered scope meant I could debug the high end of a light board wired to its actual supply and its actual lights (20 feet up in the air, looking at supply glitches from triacs turning on). Also, I could float to board ground.

I don’t really recommend hiding a soldering iron in your sleeve
