a two story tall local (sometimes express) train pulled by TWO enormous diesel locomotives with space for maybe 1/4 of the people that could be carried on the same rail Guage in almost any other country

At least they added a second car. I will never forget the day it was so crowded that people resorted to passing bikes out over the heads of passengers, crowd-surfing style.

oh god. years ago I remember playing the "carefully position your bike with others of the appropriate stop, and god help you if you don't have a bike tag" game. it must be even worse now

there was always at least one or two "yellers" per day back in the day (circa 2004-8) that would throw fits of stern loud calm complaining if anyone broke Stacking-For-Stop Etiquette.
