@standaloneSA I don't believe POSIX requires that a read-only FS update atime on reads. Even if it does I don't think anyone conforms.

@standaloneSA The NFS client case is interesting. Server sets atime, not client, but noatime on client stops it from re-fetching the atime.

@standaloneSA you aren't writing to the file, you're writing to the metadata for the file. Unless you aren't. Then, dirty pool. -
@garyrogers But the metadata is contained within the filesystem. If you don't know why a filesystem is mounted ro, then it's dangerous. -
