    If you feel gross about the idea of cutting a production release without doing the equivalent of "make clean", your build system is bad. A good build system will get you parallel builds, caching, and reliability. I don't care which you use, but that's what you should aim for.

    I sometimes refer to Algol 68 and Algol 60 in my talks when looking at the history of programming concepts, but I never mention Algol 58. There's not as much published about it, but what there is shows how much changed from 1958 to 1960, including how Fortranesque 58 was.
