Do you feel like it's sex that is the commodity or just, like, women's attention and affection and desire?

Personally I would imagine it's all of those, but ultimately 'only the weak care about affection'; it would require humanizing women, whereas focusing on sex doesn't require that.

There is a kind of parallel incel idea tho, that touch/comfort/affection/sex are necessary for a healthy life or mental state. And that access to it is a rights issue, the same way access to food or water or healthcare is a rights issue. Which makes women the actual commodity.

Hm. In that case, why not sex workers?

Because like other goods, women as commodities have varying levels of quality. "New" is preferred to "pre-owned". These folks aren't big on the concept of sharing.

Oh, yeah - don't even get me started on the ranking system and some of the things I've read. Like how every vagina remembers every penis that's ever been inside it, how they degrade and fall apart.pic.twitter.com/rIOeZbDnee

Jeez. Now I'm right back to "How the hell can you believe that it's anyone else's fault that you don't get laid when you say shit like that?"

Well that's the whole thing, right? People end up part of these communities through ideas that follow a certain kind of broken logic, and then rather than having those ideas challenged, they get reinforced and radicalized. See also: white nationalists, etc

They go looking for someone who might understand their pain and are instead offered a worldview that guarantees their pain will continue, but this time with companionship.

It's frustrating because their base concerns - modern life can be alienating and it's hard to find meaningful connections - are perfectly valid, but the worldview they've constructed out of it is seriously broken.

Ironically, the original Incel term & forum were started by a woman:https://www.elle.com/culture/news/a34512/woman-who-started-incel-movement/ …
