Cornyn is much more popular than Cruz, is in leadership and its in a presidential year instead of a blue wave year. Beto running against him would be a suicide mission. It would bring up the down ballot races

Honestly I find the "I never thought I’d be ready to run for POTUS before 2028" to be a little creepy and calculating. Like I prefer presidential hopefuls to at least feign reluctance, not blatantly have it planned out as a rung in their career ladder.
