I misspoke. I meant to say I “wouldn’t” be right here waiting for you.

And even if there was sound, the sound of the supernova would arrive billions of years after the light :)

Hey , saw The Dark Universe at the Hayden planetarium. It was awesome but for one thing: as you know there’s no sound in space and yet satellites were “wooshing” past the camera, and supernovas were going “bang”.

Steam lifetime sales binned into a histogram. (y axis is the number of titles that fall into each bin on the X axis. Leftmost bin is < 2,997 sales, rightmost is > 1 mil)

James Hansen writes: The notion that renewables and batteries alone will provide all needed energy is fantastical, a grotesque idea, tricks the public to accept a fantasy, and causes climate change to grow.

hot take: "In established engineering disciplines a 12% improvement, easily obtained, is never considered marginal and I believe the same viewpoint should prevail in software engineering" is a far more important quote than: "premature optimization is the root of all evil."

Signing up for TSE Pre, but apparently they don't want the correct name for my city of birth.

For the second time I show up to a service appointment at and they don't have anyone certified on my car working that day. You knew what car I had when you called me and booked the appointment! Don't schedule me when there's no GT-R tech on site!

I'm also surprised that it's been ten years since Chrome came out and popularized tabs-on-top, and the Mac OS team still hasn't made changes to make their experience on par with Windows. You'd think web browsing is a key use case they'd want to do well.

I wish Mac OS didn't have that top menu bar. It makes web browsing soooo much worse than on windows, because you can't use Fitt's law to "snap" the cursor to the top of the browser when switching tabs (you have to move it back down a bit or else you hit the menu bar).

18 MB, 344 requests, 5s page load time. Slower than 72% of all tested websites on pingdom. This is ok for the "front page of the internet"?

Remember when Chrysler recalled >1M cars after a single customer died because of a confusing gear shifter? Yeah... This car drives you into barriers...

I wish Android or iOS would just steal the live tiles from Windows Phone. They were delightful - almost zero notification spam because every app had their own little surface to put stuff on.
