      "Just stop doing the thing that's causing your problems" is a reliable predictor of someone trying to pull a fast one IME, and the monkey paw thing in particular is an attempt to shortcut to seeming insightful without doing the work of articulating what's actually going on.

      right!!! a compelling sounding analogy followed by an assertion doesn't make the assertion true. how does the assertion read if you don't have the analogy before it?
