You can always tell if someone is very spiritually developed if they tell you that they are

I’ve also noticed they mostly don’t “come out” so yeah someone talking loudly about being spiritually developed is a fairly good heuristic for detecting bullshit in this regard (just don’t forget it’s a heuristic, and there can be exceptions).

I'm generally wary of people who call themselves enlightened for this reason, but as you say it doesn't mean that they aren't. It's just unusual for enlightened people to advertise the fact.

But there's also a perspective here that being enlightened, in many ways, is not a big deal, actually. It's just the seeing through one of particular false duality. In all other aspects the person is still human, with all the nuance and diversity that comes with that.

I had a guy severely bully me online and he was constantly going on about how he was so advanced in meditation he can do others no harm, it would be impossible (he's also a psych researcher, lovely). He didn't claim to be enlightened, just "advanced".
