Do they enjoy doing childcare and housework more than they enjoyed professional life?

The one I know does. He actually gets energy from his kids, rather than feeling it drained out. He himself had a good father :)

I’m curious if that was true when the kids were babies and small toddlers. I can imagine it being like that with a kid who talks. At the moment it’s a huge challenge for me.

They are currently 4 and 18 months, so yes. The 18 month old is remarkable, they bathe him up to his neck and he climbs the stairs by himself

our 14 month old loves bathing and climbs stairs like a madman. He just kind of started walking yesterday, otherwise he crawls superfast. Has been climbing furniture very enthusiastically since 7 months, never misses an opportunity to climb chairs and tables

Yes must be tiring keeping an eye on a child like that! It won’t be long before they’re verbal though. I think my friend gets his energy from being delighted by them but I know I would just be knackered.

Yeah, it also depends on housing situation. We stayed for some days in a beautiful house in the forest where the kitchen was part of a large room. Felt a lot more calm than our 4th floor flat. Coming home I realized how cramped I feel there

Plus I suspect I have untreated ADHD so my brain just kind of overheats when I have to do something or make a decision while toddler is around and generally everything feels like hard mode. So tiring

(And so tweets about how current non-parents would of course simply love to quit work and be at home are a bit aggravating!)

Nevertheless I have been more or less totally devoted to childcare at home for these 14 past months, just with momma at home too. Did two months on my own while she worked and it was a struggle

It’s VERY hard! But I gotta say it’s nice to see men doing it - I feel like the true extent of how hard it is was still being hidden by gender roles, even now.

For sure. Of course “modern” householding is pretty weird. Having just one more adult around, like when friends have stayed over, is a huge difference. Like spinning up one more server for a heavily starved web app, lol
