I was 31 before I realised you could see the Milky Way with the naked eye. I’ve just seen it for the second time in dark countryside... and with binoculars!

That’s kinda sad actually. I grew up in a dark enough place that I could see it at least faintly most clear days growing up. But seeing it from deep remote wilderness is truly spectacular. It’s one of my criteria for a retirement location.
A lot of my anecdotes have a deeply sad angle, I like to have the sad in there openly, mixed with the beauty. Thanks for noticing :)
