So what I’m saying is: stop worrying so much. Release your death grip on that panic attack you’ve been having for six months. Hug a friend. Go for coffee. It’s time to balance your personal wellbeing vs the collective good.

I've been a long term activist. Working collectively for a greater good for a long time. Burnout is a thing. I've seen people burn each other out trying to keep on top of that moral high ground, and they end up more broken, for longer, than a lingering viral load.

Reducing cases has to be balanced with quality of life, and I think far fewer people are saying that publicly.

Apparently yes (cases began rising 6-10 weeks ago, deaths still flat)

Not sure that that’s the right conclusion to draw — there have been substantial improvements in our ability to treat it, so the death rate has gone down over time. Doesn’t mean that the marginal <50 infection won’t cause more deaths at the margin.

That's probably due to a combination of, in decreasing order of importance: 1°) much more testing than during the first wave (so more reported cases but probably fewer actual cases) 2°) it's under 50's who are getting infected 3°) better preparation, less hospital overflow

Nope. We still don't know about long lasting side effects or whether this is a new strain being introduced with different consequences. This thing is killing people and I for one don't want to potentially be a typhoid Mary for anyone

Under 50. Got infected in March. Still can't walk across a room without getting winded. Downplaying the impact of this on young people is irresponsible.

Same for some of my friends. It's a calculated risk. Trying to encourage calculation in the equation, rather than moralising.https://twitter.com/ssica3003/status/1304495058138411013?s=20 …
