We can find common enemies in non-sentient phenomena. Examples: • "evil" conditions (the sheer prevalence of suffering) • "evil" systems (factory farming) • "evil" events (climate change, disaligned AGI foom). ht

In reality, no things are binary good or evil. But to (a) outcompete other [common enemy] memes while (b) remaining unneutered, find a useful enemy. 9/n

We’re (probably) genetically predisposed to favor *human* common enemies. Yet if you combine [worldview empathy] with [non-sentient common enemy], then you will often outcompete the [human common enemy] strategy. 10/n

Ofc you need to be careful here. A problem arises when we start seeing others purely as agents of the evil system, meme, etc. For instance, your people might start putting guillotines for class enemies in the streets because capitalism bad. 11/npic.twitter.com/YD5VvSqVLY

"Suffering" – though you have to be careful with this one, because many anti-suffering people give up on trying to make the world good and instead become keen on causing mass extinction

^^^ It helps to have a simple, catchy label for a broad enemy, but you'd want to do cause prioritization within each of these. What is the worst manifestation of the Anti-life? What causes the most Suffering? https://causeprioritization.org/Cause_prioritization … 15/n
