How is it different from the practice of defining terms in academic work? Besides obviously that it’s done outside of that context. I’m not being facetious, I’ve always wondered if there was some aspect of tabooing I was missing.

I have a tough time separating the practice from its evolution by the reactionary LW diaspora, in which a writer writes said definition but then obviously ignores it. Then when someone quotes the writer, they use the definition as plausible deniability.
