Over my years of freelancing and having multiple 6- or 9-month long breaks between contracts, I've noticed that at first people (myself and others) need a whole six months to chill out, veg out, play games, catch up with friends, health appointments, holidays and so on

Thank you for sharing. My partner has been going through this and at first it was hard to tell if it was this or depression. But I've come to realise that it's totally natural and needed.

@Meaningness has helped a lot... and I’m aware “explore” modes sometimes take a long time ... but still gah! Even harder that so many people are now just in kids mode and so few people can empathise with my mode. Oh well.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -
I'm in one of those modes now. I don't think knowledge work is best done at a simmering 6. Rather, a marathon of sprints from 0 to 10. Plan, sprint, rest, reflect, repeat. Explore modes help with the rest and reflect parts. Sometimes even the planning.
