The thing about the tower of babel is that God didn't confuse man's languages because they sinned, God put a stop to the building because it would have worked. "if they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them"

I was taught that man was building this tower to reach the heavens and do away with the need for God, but the Bible verse actually says they wanted to "make a name for themselves".

The whole story is about language - man cooperating in the same language and then being thwarted by having their languages confused - but the creation of a name is the seat of power in this particular magic spell. Powerful enough to warrant intervention from God
