if instead of a physical tower, our babel is a tower of abstractions, how close are we to angering God? This thought tangentially inspired by gpt-3 gpt-3 as a funhouse mirror, reflecting back to us everything we've ever expressed in words Abstracting another layer

The thing about the tower of babel is that God didn't confuse man's languages because they sinned, God put a stop to the building because it would have worked. "if they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them"

I was taught that man was building this tower to reach the heavens and do away with the need for God, but the Bible verse actually says they wanted to "make a name for themselves".

The whole story is about language - man cooperating in the same language and then being thwarted by having their languages confused - but the creation of a name is the seat of power in this particular magic spell. Powerful enough to warrant intervention from God

Mind-blowing take. Sincerely. I would never have connected these thoughts together otherwise.
