The city council allowed every cafe and bar to have outdoor seating due to the virus and it’s such a huge improvement to city life. Why did they restrict it before and what else are they preventing us from enjoying

one reason they restrict it is pavement access for pedestrians and esp wheelchairs. Normally cafes need to apply for a street table licence and they are awarded on a case-by-case basis depending on the nature of the pavement. I personally hate it when tables block a pavement.

That makes sense. I go with a baby stroller and thankfully haven’t had extra trouble now. Probably I’d be assume better intent if the Rīga city council weren’t notoriously corrupt and bad

My local friendly craft beer bar owner says the whole summer can go by without his application to put a few chairs outside on the wide pavement coming through >_<

Yup, the system is slow and suffers from problems (like corruption). It has taken us a long time to even get this far.
