maybe “do something big (oss) to get something little (a job)” is messing with your motivation maybe you should try “do something (relatively) little (write a soft) to get something big (a startup company)”

you need 40% of the hustle skill of a sales job. 100% of the skill needed to use a spreadsheet... except applied to html, css and javascript. Then you need about 50% of the courage as a skydive? Spread over a 12 month period. I do html and css only for £350/day

Yup I normally tell people that the technical skill is the least important factor to becoming freelance. I literally spent 2 weeks on codecademy and had an almost-fake portfolio. I've heard other devs worry they "only" have 5 years experience or w/e. But that's not the problem.

This is absolutely fascinating. I'm not this kind of worker, but even from the outside I'd got pulled into the idea that you'd need loads of experience to pull this off.

Don't trust what anyone "knows" about contracting who isn't a contractor. It's a slightly different story for different tech skillsets, but the bar is pretty low there too and not what you'd expect. It's a totally different game to PAYE
