Technically speaking~the "you" who fears death ceases to exist at least once every 24 hours. So I ask, what was death like last night, last week? It is nothing, it is the absence of experience. Dreaming is when the "you" who fear's death has barely opened its mind's eye.

I'd say its both the fear of the other side itself & fear of leaving behind love (or suffering) on the living side. I have no solution to the pain we will derive from reflecting on love lost via death but I can at least help with the fear of death being a negative experience.

I don't care about the things I leave behind, this entirely a selfish fear

And if you have no prefrontal cortex activity during sleel you won't be reflecting on anything during or after. Have you never had a dreamless sleep?
-
Yep had dreamless sleep and doing it forever is terrifying! I'm not interested in carrying this on further - plenty of people have taken this line of reasoning and I don't buy it I'm afraid. I have sought out other arguments and found one or two to be more comforting.
