Is it actually generally detrimental to a dev to work in an office environment?
Yes. Everyone suffers in offices, but its more visible in knowledge workers and autists. Need: - controlled & customised sensory and social environment - no sudden changes - no distractions - no access by other people in company except line manager

I'm a contractor and have visited about 35 companies so far, the devs more or less all behave the same. Trying to drift as far away from office music & talking (sales team!) as possible, with their backs to a wall, refusing to hotdesk, behind physical barriers or a wall
