I agree, it takes practice. Say, cynically, 4 in 5 people never care about others. That is terrible for their own experiences and their relationships, both psychologically and practically. The remaining 1/5 would benefit from being compassionate, even without reciprocation.
I think you’re talking about something else here. My tweet was you don’t have to care about other people’s feelings not compassion in general.

Okay, maybe I'm misunderstanding. For me, compassion = caring about other peoples feelings. Your initial post could be exactly what someone needs to hear too: a corrective if they're being taken advantage of . . or they're apologising for a joke after a stand-up performance.
