I feel like it's not so much sensemaking as people finding that change i) happening faster and faster, ii) is being forced upon them and iii) they don't like it. Sensemaking then feels like a comfortable rationalised place to hang without actually having to engage with change.
I guess another way to put it is "give me sensemaking because I don't want to have to develop agency".
You can deal with confusing or scary things by ignoring them. Maybe certain things have become slightly harder to ignore?
I think one step beyond. Formalising the problem is 99% of solving it. There is a felt uneasiness and a sense-feeling that sensemaking is what is missing, but hard to say precisely what the uneasiness is *about*

Nothing has ever made sense and it's finally catching up with us 
I think people want to make sense to their heart, not just their head. They're afraid, sad, lonely, frustrated, angry.
I’m used to watching totally preventable clusterfucks unfold and finding the black humor in the situation. I’m not used to watching said clusterfucks actually threaten to kill my elderly relatives.
Oh really? That’s a super common one for lethal clusterfucks to kill. That and poor (economically) young men ie soldiers
