90% of the time when I reach for a coke or sour candy I've been working on a program for 5+ hours. Programming makes you unhealthy change my mind.

I don't think it's that programming makes you unhealthy, it's that programming is a big mental workout that burns through a lot of calories, so you instinctively want to replace them afterwards and reach for the closest, easiest source of energy.

Can test my theory with the following experiment: put healthy, high-energy (but still tasty) snacks within easy reach of the computer, and see if you are just as inclined to eat those as the candy.

I can confirm. I keep 2l water on my desk and sometimes I bring (already cut) apples, pears, bananas... But I keep chocolate and crackers just as close because that's the advantage of living otherwise healthy

I agree, I do think coding burns through blood glucose and brain responds accordingly
