Men are assaulted by strangers more than women are. I don't get the disparity, where women are much more scared of strangers than men are. It seems like either hysteria or a stiff upper lip, depending on which gender we wanna blame here

My initial knee-jerk reaction is that those "idiotic ways" may have done much to push the bounds of human knowledge and technology over the years in addition to giving rise to catastrophic thrills-gone-wrong scenarios. Hiking to the South Pole is both ridiculous & informative.
And on the other hand when I was a feminist in the 00s we focused on language around “safety” posters always targeting women warning of stranger danger and unlicensed cabs etc. It creates fear where there should be none (women are typically assaulted by partners, not strangers)

My mum always shared those horrible chain emails sharing “tips” for what to do when you are kidnapped in someone’s trunk or returning to your car at night. She thought she was a “good mum” for sharing until I pointed out it needlessly creates fear.
