      Vgr had a tweet where he said “if you exclude a house or holiday, what would you do with $100k”? And in the results he decided that it’s not lack of money that stops people e.g. starting a business or building something or living their dream. Thought about that a lot since.

      I remember that thread. very few people had things that they were ready to work on in any real sense in the near term. everybody dreaming of bored idle retirement nobody dreaming of taking a swing at Destiny (or however you want to frame it).

          I think about this stuff a lot. the simplest explanation is that people don't want to be responsible for implementing their dreams. fantasizing about becoming a famous author is comforting. carrying book proposals around with you in case you meet an agent = scary, hard, painful
