Its true that a lot of F dont seek that rigour, but just knowing that it's there is helpful for me in knowing how to connect with them, what pitfalls to avoid, how to bring things up delicately. Doesnt work all the time, but cant be friends w everyone I guess

And while it's easy to change the mind of R on factual well-documented matters, it's really hard to get a lot of them to see outside of their own frameworks. So all in all it takes as much care (maybe even a bit more) to change the mind of an R (if I at all can!)

I don't think the concern in general is really "Can I change their mind?" so much as "Am I going to get cancelled?". Rationalists at least don't tend to do that - the word for someone who has lots of arguments with rationalists is "rationalist".

I agree with the cancellation part! This would probably take a more in depth conversation. Theres both individual ways to avoid it, understanding the "charitable interpretation" of cancellation, and figuring out ways to change the culture (changing minds ;)

We're also hitting the limits of how much of this conversation I'm prepared to have in public TBH.
