A great example of graph scepticism saving the day. I wondered if this was a joke because of the graph - eg why would time have a label of -1?

This is generally a normal thing in even studies. You have a thing happening at some time t; you denote it 0, everything before is negative, everything after is positive.

Cool! I’ve seen t=0 before, but the numbers are a day or an hour or something but measuring “women’s standards” with t and unquantified numbers? And the other axis is standard deviation from 0 ... I presume you wouldn’t normally measure sociological enquiries this way :)

It's not really weird: you have a survey with some with a lot of Likert scales, if they are nice enough, you can sum them, and then report standardized scores: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Likert_scale#Scoring_and_analysis …

I think standards would be measured by surveys with some kind of Likert scales with "not important" to "very important" or somewhat like that.
