dj microbeads added,
Ok, look, it’s great food _if you live here_! I realised this when I went to Scotland in February. I was FREEZING and MISERABLE and then I had haggis and it was a tasty, warm happy fire in my belly it was SO GOOD. We eat salty meat and carbs because it’s always fucking raining ok
jellied eels sound really good tbh
I’ve seen them for sale once and they were incredible. Nothing like anything else I’ve eaten. It’s a trad thing you can’t get anymore even in working class farming towns in the inaccessible hinterlands.
That was supposed to be “only once.”
Ah yes it was here. They have a picture of them in the google maps entry. Within striking distance for Jess… weird place, normalish pub and then a sort of outdoor popup fish stall.https://goo.gl/maps/sHSEu89w4PhHYudt7 …
Jellied eels were the single weirdest thing they had for sale but also several other things I’d never seen before.
Thinking about this, I kind of suspect their eels are ironic, but I don’t understand the culture well enough to know?
there's a video on youtube from one of the ppl in east london who runs a pie mash and eels shop. he is very earnest.
I think the YouGov poll was mostly ironic. Eels certainly used to be big at one time, and they occasionally get mentioned in jokes, much like Morris dancing is, and you can technically still get them, but very few people in the UK under age 60 have actually eaten a jellied eel
if i could abide fish i wld but unfortunately i deny myself this pure trü london delicacy
