Twitter as a company is culturally oriented around NOW. Product reflects this. The Twitter users who search their own and others timelines for building webs of threads are hacking the platform to build a collaborative Memex (memory extension) Eventually those users will migrate

Have any of the threaded twitter folks written / tweetstorm'd / etc. about how it's done? What does a typical Twitter session look like for you, for
@Malcolm_Ocean,@visakanv, etc.? What affordances are you using, and ignoring completely?1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
There isn’t really any typical session, I just do whatever I feel like doing. I probably do a lot more searches than most people do

(I have lots more questions… where do you & other threaded Twitter folks spend most of your time? On your own timeline? On others'? In lists? Do you have different "defaults", like quoted replies rather than direct replies? Do you consciously plan the graph structure of tweets?)

I scroll through my timeline and it's so well-curated that within like 5 minutes I have way too many tabs open to respond to today. I use tabsnooze to make them come back in the future. I'm not saying this is a *good* workflow but it's my workflow atm!

I've often done direct replies rather than quote replies, because I don't want to run off with the conversation, but this has the unfortunate effect of making my thoughts hard to follow when the OP replies to me. See this thread about a time that happened:https://twitter.com/Malcolm_Ocean/status/1109321523599499264 …

Malcolm is back by the 🌎cean! @Malcolm_OceanAs I continue musing on how I'd design a#TwitterReplacement, I noticed that something really messy happened with a thread of mine from a month ago. It started with this reply to@cosimia_ https://twitter.com/Malcolm_Ocean/status/1100885231723339776 …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
I think it’s worth mentioning that you probably always use a desktop for Twitter - this was huge news to me as I thought Twitter was meant to be designed for phones and better on phones. But big scale twitter foo is only possible me on desktop

Yeah I try to stay logged out of twitter on my phone, because it makes me prone to scrolling & liking, without actually typing anything. I do have an IFTTT widget to allow me to post random thoughts though
