Seems a legit move if “picking apart the argument” is what you’re each trying to do, rather than exchange pleasantries or whatever. I mean, it’s in the name!

This example is instrumental though - the person need water. If someone declares “there’s no water in a fridge!” Whilst hobnobbing at a party you’re gonna get the “well, actually, there’s water in the eggplant “ response

Agreed it’s boring and nit picky and predictable. But if you’re having a real debate I think this kind of zooming up and down scale, defining words etc is worth doing, if laborious
